Life Transitions = change
Change can be unwelcome or welcome. We often find comfort in the familiar, and change can lead to feelings of anxiety, confusion, sadness, anger, and/or overwhelm. Depending on the nature of the change, we may feel varying degrees of emotion and disorientation as we navigate and adapt to change.
Life transitions can be demanding and require numerous, additional changes, and even reorganization, of our relationships, routines, and sense of identity. The most challenging life transitions may leave us feeling dismantled or broken, and call us to access underdeveloped strengths and resources.
Navigating change can require a lot of energy, courage, and self-honesty. Even with a welcomed change (such as the arrival of a new baby, starting college, or entering retirement), it is normal to experience conflicting feelings, loss or shifting of identity, and a sense of loss for what we are leaving behind.
